Although I am an ostomist
I think I’m still an optimist.
Within my verses I will tell
why I’m convinced all will be well.
I feel that it should be explained
how my life has been regained.
Then I think that you might see
why I like my ostomy.
It might be genes that predestines
the problems with our intestines.
Or perchance it was just fate
that I became an ostomate.
I never sought to lay the blame
for what I was or then became.
There’s many things that can go wrong
for me, it’s this that came along.
With optimism I foresaw
that though I had no life before
if when it came, I took the chance
then I would see my life advance.
I had the operation done
and felt I was the only one.
I quickly learned that I was not
for many more knew what was what.
With me they would communicate
and helped me live with my new fate.
With serious and light-
they made this thing seem less absurd.
I listened to their wise words well
and thought that they had much to tell.
‘So what!’ -
I can still be an optimist.
